FIRE Highly flammable. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire.
NO open flames, NO sparks, and NO smoking. NO contact with hot surfaces.
Powder, carbon dioxide. NO hydrous agents. NO water.
EXPLOSION Vapour/air mixtures are explosive.
Closed system, ventilation, explosion-proof electrical equipment and lighting. Do NOT use compressed air for filling, discharging, or handling.
In case of fire: cool drums, etc., by spraying with water but avoid contact of the substance with water.
EXPOSURE
AVOID ALL CONTACT!

  • INHALATION

    		• Local exhaust or breathing protection.
    		Fresh air, rest. Refer for medical attention.
  • SKIN
    		• Pain.
    		Protective gloves.
    		First rinse with plenty of water, then remove contaminated clothes and rinse again. Refer for medical attention.
  • EYES
    		• Redness. Pain.
    		Safety spectacles.
    		First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
  • INGESTION
    		• Sore throat.
    		Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.
    		Rinse mouth. Do NOT induce vomiting. Refer for medical attention.
    SPILLAGE DISPOSAL STORAGE PACKAGING & LABELLING
    Evacuate danger area! Consult an expert! Collect leaking liquid in sealable dry, plastic containers. Absorb remaining liquid in sand or inert absorbent and remove to safe place. Do NOT wash away into sewer. NEVER direct water jet on liquid (extra personal protection: complete protective clothing including self-contained breathing apparatus).
    		Fireproof. Separated from oxidants, food and feedstuffs, incompatible substances (see Chemical Dangers). Cool. Dry. Well closed. Keep under inert gas.
    		Airtight. Unbreakable packaging; put breakable packaging into closed unbreakable container. Do not transport with food and feedstuffs.

    PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
     COLOURLESS LIQUID , WITH PUNGENT ODOUR.

    PHYSICAL DANGERS:
     The vapour is heavier than air and may travel along the ground; distant ignition possible.

    CHEMICAL DANGERS:
     The substance may spontaneously ignite on contact with air and in the presence of potassium permanganate, lead(II) oxide, copper oxide or silver oxide, even under an inert gas. On contact with hot surfaces or flames this substance decomposes forming toxic and corrosive fumes including chloride and phosgene. The substance decomposes on contact with alkaline compounds producing highly flammable hydrogen gas. Reacts violently with oxidants. Reacts violently with water to form corrosive hydrochloric acid (see ICSC # 0163). Attacks many metals in presence of water.

    		ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
     The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its vapour.

    INHALATION RISK:
     A harmful contamination of the air can be reached rather quickly on evaporation of this substance at 20░C on spraying/dispersing (however) much faster.

    EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
     The substance is corrosive to the eyes, the skin and the respiratory tract. Inhalation of the vapour may cause lung oedema (see Notes). Medical observation is indicated.

    N O T E S
    Reacts violently with fire extinguishing agents such as water and foam. The symptoms of lung oedema often do not become manifest until a few hours have passed and they are aggravated by physical effort. Rest and medical observation are therefore essential. Immediate administration of an appropriate spray, by a doctor or a person authorized by him/her, should be considered.
